Storage Engineer

The System Storage Engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, administering, and optimizing enterprise storage solutions across on-premises and cloud environments, with a primary focus on NetApp storage technologies, Fibre Channel SANs, and AWS cloud storage services. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with a proactive approach to automation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage NetApp storage systems (including ONTAP and Cloud Volumes ONTAP) for both on-premises and cloud environments
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Fibre Channel SAN infrastructure including zoning, provisioning, and performance optimization
  • Administer AWS storage services such as S3, EBS, FSx for NetApp ONTAP, and Glacier, ensuring high availability, data protection, and compliance
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize storage performance across hybrid cloud and SAN environments
  • Perform storage provisioning, upgrades, migrations, and capacity planning to ensure business continuity and scalability
  • Implement and manage data protection strategies, including backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions using NetApp and AWS technologies
  • Automate storage operations and routine tasks using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Cloud, DevOps, Security, Network) to support enterprise storage requirements and integrate solutions
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of configurations, procedures, and best practices for storage operations and compliance
  • Stay current with emerging trends in storage technology, automation, and cloud services.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3–6 years of experience in storage administration or engineering, with hands-on expertise in NetApp ONTAP and Cloud Volumes ONTAP
  • Proficiency in managing Fibre Channel SANs, including zoning, provisioning, and troubleshooting
  • Solid experience with AWS storage services (S3, EBS, FSx, Glacier) and hybrid cloud storage architectures
  • Strong understanding of storage networking protocols (NFS, SMB/CIFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel)
  • Experience with storage automation using scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Ansible, or similar)
  • Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., NetApp SnapMirror, SnapVault, Commvault, Veeam)
  • Excellent troubleshooting, performance optimization, and capacity planning skills
  • Strong communication and documentation abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively across teams

Desirable Qualifications

  • NetApp certifications such as NCDA (NetApp Certified Data Administrator) or NCIE (NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer)
  • Associate-level AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate)
  • Experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and their integration with storage solutions
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift) and infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes (change, incident, problem, configuration management)1.
  • Experience with additional storage vendors (e.g., Dell EMC, Pure Storage, HPE) is a plus35.
