Description
We’re hiring a Low-Latency Network Engineer to design, build, and operate ultra-low-latency networking for a high-frequency trading environment. You’ll own the network path from exchange colocation through data center fabric to trading applications, with a relentless focus on microsecond-level performance, determinism, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement low-latency L2/L3 networks for trading, including spine-leaf, point-to-point, and microwave/millimeter-wave links where applicable.
- Optimize switching, routing, and NIC configurations for minimal and deterministic latency (Arista/Cisco, Solarflare/Mellanox/).
- Implement and maintain precise time synchronization (PTP/IEEE 1588, GNSS) and monitor latency/jitter end-to-end.
- Collaborate with systems, FPGA, and application teams to profile and reduce latency across the full stack (kernel, drivers, application networking).
- Build automation and observability for network performance (latency histograms, packet loss, buffer utilization, queue depths) using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, custom telemetry.
- Own incident response for network-related latency spikes, packet loss, and failover scenarios; drive root-cause analysis and permanent fixes.
Required Skills
- 3+ years in network engineering with at least 2+ years focused on low-latency or HFT environments.
- Deep expertise in Ethernet switching/routing, VLANs, VRFs, ECMP, BGP/OSPF, multicast, and QoS in latency-sensitive contexts.
- Hands-on experience with low-latency NICs and kernel tuning (Solarflare/Onload, Mellanox DPDK/RDMA, hugepages, IRQ affinity, CPU isolation).
- Strong Linux networking background: tcpdump, perf, eBPF, ethtool, traffic shaping, and performance debugging.
- Experience with time synchronization (PTP, NTP, GNSS) and understanding of wander, jitter, and holdover.
- Scripting/automation in Python, Go, or similar; familiarity with configuration management (Ansible, Salt) and CI/CD for network changes.
