- Locations: Chicago, London
- Job Type: Full Time
- Job Category: Infrastructure
Description
We’re partnering with a top-tier hedge fund to hire a Senior Compute Engineer to design, build, and operate the high‑performance compute platform that powers quantitative research, backtesting, and live trading. You’ll work at the intersection of infrastructure, software, and data, enabling researchers and traders to iterate faster and run larger, more complex workloads at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and operate large‑scale Linux compute environments (bare metal, VMs, containers) for research and trading.
- Design and manage Kubernetes clusters and/or HPC schedulers (e.g., Slurm, LSF, or internal systems) for batch, interactive, and GPU workloads.
- Build and optimise distributed storage and data platforms (e.g., Lustre, BeeGFS, GPFS, or cloud equivalents) for high‑throughput, low‑latency access.
- Engineer high‑performance networking (InfiniBand, RoCE, low‑latency Ethernet) and tune OS/kernel parameters for maximum performance.
- Develop automation and tooling in Python/Go/Bash and IaC (Terraform, Ansible) to provision, configure, and validate compute at scale.
Required Skills
- 5+ years’ experience in compute/platform/HPC engineering, ideally within hedge funds, prop trading, or similarly demanding data‑intensive environments.
- Deep expertise with Linux systems, performance tuning, and troubleshooting at scale.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes and/or HPC job schedulers (Slurm, LSF, or equivalent) in production.
- Proven work with high‑performance storage (parallel/file/object) and data‑intensive workloads (backtesting, simulation, ML).
